Underwater clamshell bucket excavators "Reiter" type RCM.

Our plants type "RCM" have (upon request) various excavation points thus allowing an extensive excavation hole without troublesome and expensive movements of the craft. The best conditions for their use are found in alluvial soils or river sediments, in which the material readily slides into the excavated hole. The plants consist of a very large watercraft which is divided into floating pontoons with water-proof chambers, on which is assembled either a gantry or a derrick. The gantry bears the mobile trolley carrying two winches which are driven by electric motors and which control the movements of the clamshell bucket. On derrick-type plants, the winches are placed on the craft itself and the movements are carried out by the hydraulic inclination of the derrick. All the controls are placed in the cabin allowing both the manual and automatic operations. The bucket may reach standard depths of 50 m. below water level (further depths if requested). The extracted material is discharged into the hopper on which is placed a hydraulically tiltable preselecting grate in order to remove and reject any oversize. From the hopper, the material is conveyed onto a vibrating dehydrator from which it descends on the line of belt conveyors. The first of these are placed on water, on pontoons surmounted by turrets with thrust bearings, giving the craft ample field of movement. The electric plant, of modern design, is a self-cutout type which avoids operator's errors.
